biography

It all began sometime back in 1975.... In a small town in upstate New York, Daniel Joshua Neuburger was born. The birth of the young lad effectively doubled the population of that small country town (just kidding). He was raised on a farm that his parents started. His father grew up in the Bronx and his mother grew up in Brooklyn. They moved from the city to the country to provide a better life for their family.

For the first few years of his life he stumbled around a bit, but when he got more sure footed he was climbing mountains, planting trees and starting his own firewood business. Mountain climbing is still one his passions, maybe some day he'll start using ropes......

(point of internal contention)

Growing to become an adult in a small town instilled an uncommon set of values in this young man. Uncommon doesn't necassarily mean a higher set of values just different. This difference leads to points of internal confict.....

His best friend Lee joined him in the creation of BockenBurger Firewood Productions. They produced around 14 cords of firewood in a 1.5 months. (not bad for 2, high school teens with one saw and 2 splitting malls.) He worked in landscaping for 7 years as he went through high school and college. Nothing else in High School stands out, but Dan soon moved on to college at Alfred University.

He studied Digital Video and Computer Imaging while dabbling in metal sculpture and printmaking. At Alfred he maintained a full course load at 18 credits per semester while working 4 and sometimes 5 jobs simultaneuously. He graduated Cum Laude, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. After burning the candle at both ends for 4 full years at college, he decided that it was time to take a break. So, for 3 months he relaxed and enjoyed the summer of 1997 by taking in the countryside and all its beauty.

(Mental note for the next time I am 21)
In retrospect, 3 months wasn't really enough. A good solid year would have been a much more auspicious choice. But, having never had the experience of working for the rest of my life, I felt the need to be gainfully employed. I guess I have a problem with inertia. I have been in motion so long that I just can't stop. Somebody please find me and equal and opposite force.

Then it became time to begin the quest for employment. Within 3 months he started working for Quad Graphics, the 4th largest printing company in the country and probably the world. 1.75 years later, higher-ups at Quad asked Dan to surrender his immortal soul to the company, Dan refused and quit, to search for a more pleasing alternative.

When someone wants your soul and offers you nothing for it.... Say no
Sometimes it takes the failure of a large scale corporation for you to realize that you were right. The management of large corporations don't always make the best decisions. They do indeed make terrible decisions with a high degree of regularity.

Within 4 days Dan found himself working for People Magazine. He worked in the Edit Operations Department for about 2.66 years. In Edit Operations he did research and development for projects ranging from the web to publishing. To see one of his projects go to people.aol.com and follow the puzzler link. His later projects delt with viability research for publishing tools and products. After his stint in Edit, Dan moved his way up to Design for PEOPLE. Although his title remained a mystery for some time, his responsibilites included but were not limited to Layout Design and Technology Management. So, you could formulate your own title from those occupational activities.
